Blueberry banana smoothies in clear glass with straw

Blueberry Banana Smoothies – Healthy, easy, and quick to prepare, it’s a refreshing treat after a morning run or an afternoon in the hot sun.

Do you like blueberries? I do! And I hope to find some this year when they’re in season and get them into the freezer for those months when fresh blueberries are beyond the reach of my wallet. My family loves them too – just look for the blue lips and teeth after snacking on a bowl of these blue morsels – especially the frozen ones. Fresh or frozen, it doesn’t matter. They’ll eat them. Who wouldn’t? Blueberries are sweet, juicy and packed with fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants. All that definitely makes them a healthy snack choice – and a great smoothie starter too!

In fact, this Blueberry Banana Smoothie is a family favorite for a morning breakfast or afternoon snack. Healthy, easy, and quick to prepare it’s a refreshing treat after a morning run or an afternoon in the hot sun.

How to make this Blueberry Banana Smoothie

  • Prep ahead and freeze some bananas. Anytime you have some bananas that are a little too ripe for you, go ahead and freeze them for your smoothies. Just peel, cut or break into chunks, toss them into a freezer bag, seal, and freeze.
  • Put the frozen bananas into a blender, add a little milk and blend it together. I have a 1000 watt Ninja blender that works great for this.
  • Now add the frozen blueberries (frozen wild blueberries are my favorite), Greek yogurt, and honey – along with more milk if needed. Blend it all together and you have a blueberry banana smoothie!

  6. I was just talking to my son about making smoothies soon for the summer and this sounds great and we have the ingredients, except the greek yogurt. Do you think regular yogurt would work as well? Thanks for sharing at the Friday Follow Along and I plan on enjoying one of these smoothies soon! http://www.leahinspired.com

    1. Leah – you could certainly use regular yogurt. I would just use plain and maybe reduce the milk slightly since it’s not as thick as Greek yogurt. Regular yogurt has a bit less protein than Greek, but that shouldn’t affect the flavor much. Hope you enjoy it and thanks for stopping by!

    1. Hi Ruby – This made about 3 c. So I would say 3 to 4 depending on how much each person would like. Hope that helps! I updated it on the recipe too. Thank you for asking!

    1. Hi Audrie – Taste it first and see if it’s sweet enough for you. If it is you’re good to go. If you’d like it a little sweeter you could add a little sugar. The honey is there mostly to add a little more sweetness to the smoothie if so desired. Hope that works for you. Thanks for stopping!

  8. I enjoy smoothies , but worry about packing on pounds !
I want to try eat healthier and let’s face it in today’s world it’s tough.
Special K cereal seems like eating air anymore . So need something quick, easy , satisfying, but NOT calorie building.
    Any suggestions?

    1. Hi Ronda – Smoothies can be a healthy choice for breakfast if you make them at home and limit the added sugar. Greek yogurt has more protein than regular yogurt and will help keep you full. The fruit provides all kinds of vitamins and minerals that you need. Is it breakfast ideas you’re looking for? If you’re looking for more general information: eat real food, avoiding processed food when you can, eat when you’re truly hungry and stop eating as soon as you feel full. Choose mostly plant based foods like vegetables and fruit, add in lean protein and dairy along with whole grains for a balanced diet. And you’re right, it can be tough to maintain a healthy diet. But with a little planning it’s doable.

  9. Yup. You just inspired me to buy and FREEZE a wack of blueberries while they are in season and crazy cheap! We always did at my home growing up, and now that I have a deep-freeze (and Breville blender) there is no excuse. I will bless you again in November I am sure. Thank you!!
