What makes this smoothie healthy?

That’s a good question! So, let’s break it down into the ingredients.

  • Frozen strawberries

Strawberries, frozen or fresh, are filled with Vitamin C, manganese, folate, and potassium, along with other vitamins and minerals. They’re also a good source of fiber and heart-healthy antioxidants. Calorically, strawberries contain around 50 calories in 1 cup of halved strawberries. Seriously, you get a lot of nutrition in a small amount of calories.

  • Fresh lemon juice

This recipe only calls for a couple tablespoons of fresh lemon juice, but even in that small amount you’ll get a healthy dose of Vitamin C with about 8 calories. But what if you use bottled lemon juice? You’ll still get Vitamin C, just a little less than when you use fresh lemon juice.

  • Milk

Milk provides high quality protein along with good amounts of several nutrients. These include calcium – important for bone health, Vitamin B12, riboflavin, and phosphorus. The number of calories supplied really depends upon the fat content of the milk used.

  • Honey

Honey is a natural sweetener that contains trace amounts of nutrients. One tablespoon contains about 64 calories, all from carbohydrate. While it may be a tiny bit healthier than table sugar, it’s still wise to be cautious and use it moderation.

How can I make this smoothie vegan?

It’s fairly easy to make this a vegan strawberry lemonade smoothie. To do that, just substitute your favorite plant-based milk beverage for the milk. I think almond milk would be great in this recipe!

For the honey, just substitute your favorite vegan-friendly sweetener for the honey. Examples would be pure maple syrup, stevia, or molasses. Start with a small amount, if any, and increase until the smoothie reaches your desired sweetness.

So, what’s keeping you from trying this Strawberry Lemonade Smoothie? It’s healthy, it’s super easy to make, and it’s delicious! It makes a refreshing, sweet and tangy breakfast or snack any time of the year. If you like strawberries, lemonade, and smoothies, you’ll love this new Strawberry Lemonade Smoothie!
