These Easy Banana Bites with Peanut Butter are the perfect easy snack when you need something quick, satisfying, and nutritious.

Sometimes the easiest snacks are the best. Think about it. It’s mid-afternoon and your stomach is starting to feel a little empty and uncomfortable. You head to the kitchen, open the fridge and stare for a while, not really finding anything that sounds good or is quick enough so you can get back to what you were doing. Sure, you could grab a bag of chips, but they don’t score very high nutritionally. The ideal snack offers high nutritional value, with great taste, all while taking minimal time to prepare. So, what foods fit that bill?
I can think of several: a piece of fruit – like an apple, or a piece of string cheese are both great examples. They’re obviously quick. Just wash the apple and start eating, or take the wrapper off the string cheese and you’re good to go. There are lots of others too: whole grain crackers, bananas, grapes, yogurt . . . all are quick, easy, and filled with a variety of nutrients.
What makes a snack healthy?
While those foods are great snack options, sometimes it’s nice to combine flavors and foods. The nice thing about doing this is you can maximize your nutrient intake at the same time. Remember when I said a good snack offers high nutritional value? Well, what does that mean? On a macronutrient level we’re talking about a snack that provides complex carbohydrates along with a bit of protein and healthy fats. Carbohydrate provides quick energy that your body needs. And protein and fat provide sustaining power to satisfy and curb your hunger until the next meal. Additionally, by combining foods, you gain a greater variety of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients.

What makes these a healthy snack option?
That’s where my Easy Banana Bites with Peanut Butter come in. They’re quick and easy to prepare. They offer complex carbohydrates, protein, fat, a variety of nutrients, and are, in my opinion, delicious! And, they’re a fun snack! Seriously, who doesn’t love bananas and peanut butter together? These little bites are even better with a little chocolate drizzled on top. So good!
Let’s break down the ingredients a little and look at what they provide to your diet. First up is the banana. Bananas top the list of the most popular fruits purchased in 2019. They have a mellow flavor that combines well with other foods. Nutritionally, one medium banana provides around 105 calories, 3 grams of fiber, and is a good source of potassium, manganese, and Vitamin B6.

Since bananas are low in protein, it makes sense to pair them with a higher protein food. In this case – peanut butter. In fact, one tablespoon of peanut butter provides around 96 calories, 3 ½ grams of protein, 8 grams of fat, and good source of niacin and manganese. Now, if you don’t care for peanut butter, try a different nut butter! I think these banana bites would be just as delicious with almond butter or walnut butter. And if you have nut allergies, try them with sunflower butter! Any of those would pair wonderfully with bananas.
How about the chocolate? Well, a ½ Tbsp. of chocolate syrup provides just 22 calories and about 5 ½ grams carbohydrate. Nothing to worry about here folks, because a little chocolate goes a long way and offers lots of flavor that works well with the bananas and peanut butter. But if you don’t like chocolate, feel free to leave it off.

These Easy Banana Bites with Peanut Butter are the perfect uncomplicated, but delicious and nutritious snack. And if you want to make them a little more fun or to share with others, just insert a toothpick in each bite for easier serving.
